What is a Ductless Mini Split?: The Quick Facts

What is a ductless mini split? For starters, it is one of the most efficient and non-imposing cooling systems that can be installed on your house.

But the main question and probably why you are here. How do they work? For that, you'll need to keep reading.

This short, 5-minute read describes everything you need to know about ductless mini splits. We include the major benefits as well as the downsides as it compares to other air conditioning systems.

Discover the answer to all of your questions below

What Is a Ductless Mini Split?

The best way to define what a ductless mini split system is to explain what it's not. As you probably know, a normal air conditioning system contains one outdoor compressor unit as well as one indoor evaporator unit. This indoor device pumps air directly into every room through a network of ducts.

On the other hand, a min split uses several smaller indoor systems, one for each area. Each unit attaches directly to the outdoor compressor. Considering that each room has its very own cooling unit, a mini split bypass the need for air ducts.

Okay. How does a Ductless mini split work?

Each interior system has a fan and as well as evaporator coils. The fan blows the warm by utilizing the evaporator coils, the result is the cool air is blown into the room.

Then, the refrigerant in the evaporator coils pumps the heat is absorbed from the indoor air out to the outdoor unit. Lastly, the outdoor unit's fan simply blows the heat away.

Benefits

Below are the many ways this common modern technology can benefit you, if you are not ready to invest in a new central air conditioning system.

Energy/Cooling Efficiency

First off, the system itself is more efficient than a typical air conditioning system. For instance, if you have unoccupied rooms that do not require air conditioning, you can just switch off that room's interior device. You only spend power cooling down the spaces that you are occupying.

With a central air conditioning, you can only shut off the vent, to reduce the air flow. However, the fan of the central Air Conditioner's interior unit will still be functioning equally as if the air vent is open. Plus, some air will still make it into that area although the vent is closed. This will surely waste electricity and power.

Mentioning leaks, ducts are known for dripping, specifically if they aren't effectively installed. Normal houses lose 20% of air, due to these ducts not being properly sealed.

But even with well-insulated ducts, the air may warm before the time it reaches each room. This does not happen when you have a ductless mini split system.

In addition, occupants in each area can pick their very own temperature level settings. Thus, occupants are not required to change the thermostat for a larger area.

Easy Set Up

Mini splits are far more hassle-free to set up. There are no big air ducts to worry about, just tiny tubes with little holes in the wall surface. Additionally, homes that have no area for air ducts still have room for mini splits.

Drawbacks

There's actually only one negative aspect to mini splits and it really only applies to a few individuals. Considering that you'll be spending for one indoor system per room, installment can be extremely expensive for larger houses with a number of rooms.

Certainly, this also indicates that mini splits are much cheaper to install in small homes with extremely few areas. Besides this, the money you save can certainly offset the high cost that you may incur by having many rooms.

Kyle, was great! 800-PLUMBER called to say when he would arrive, and he was right on time. He even completed another job that wasn't planned on my end while he was there. I would recommend 800-Plumber to any of my family or friends. Laura Clear Lake

Detailed orientated and honest inspection. Chad took his time and explained everything that was going on very well. The service fee was fair for the small issues he fixed, and he was able to make a referral for water restoration for us, I would use his service again and plan to when our water heater goes out.
